NEWSPIX: Endangered hawksbill turtle trapped in net freed in Surigao Norte town

An endangered sea turtle, locally known as pawikan, was released and sent back to the sea, after it got entangled in a fish net owned by a fisherman on Sunday morning off the waters of Barangay Poblacion, Bacuag town in Surigao del Norte.

The juvenile hawksbill sea turtle weighed around five kilograms. Hawksbills are listed as critically endangered species by the World Wildlife Fund.

The release of the sea turtle was witnessed by the town Coastal Resource Management Office personnel and local police. CLC
