Police authorities on Tuesday arrested nine men on charges of illegally hunting wild birds in Alegria town in Surigao del Norte province.
The Alegria police said migratory birds known as “karab,” “manhak” “ tibid” and “pangga” have become favorite target by poachers from nearby Agusan del Norte.
Republic Act No. 9147 imposes the conservation and protection of wildlife resources.
The suspects identified as Faustino Veñales, Ramil Hermosora, Rolly Hermosora, Dominico Gamil, Edwin Paronda, Fermin Galusan, Remy Ticon, Rodel Baguhin, and Marvie Anduhoyan, all residents of Cabadbaran City faced up to four years in prison and a fine of up to P300,000 if found guilty.
