A rookie police officer is now the subject of a manhunt operation after he was tagged behind the shooting that seriously wounded a police official inside the Philippine National Police’s Agusan del Sur 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (2nd PMFC) camp in Bunawan town Friday night, December 6.

Police Col.  Ringo C. Zarzoso, Agusan del Sur provincial police director, said authorities were on the hunt for Patrolman John Paul Gerida, 28, for the shooting of Lt. Col. Rex Lomente, commanding officer of the 2nd PMFC inside the latter’s office at about 9:25 p.m.

Gerida escaped after the shooting.

Initial investigation showed the suspect and the victim had a heated confrontation inside latter’s office before the shooting incident.

Lomente sustained a gunshot wound on his head. He was rushed to Tagum Hospital and later transferred to Southern Philippines Medical Center in  Davao City for treatment, Zarzoso said.

Zarzoso appealed to the public to help police authorities hunt down Gerida so he would be arrested and brought to justice.

Frustrated murder charge as well as administrative sanctions were being readied against Gerida. ByCLC
