The Sandiganbayan has ordered the 60-day suspension of Mayor Rushford Dedumo of San Benito, Surigao del Norte, pending his graft case for appointing her sister as a municipal consultant .
In a resolution, the antigraft court granted the motion filed by the Ombudsman’s Office of the Special Prosecutor to suspend Dedumo pending the litigation of his graft case.
Under Section 13 of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (Republic Act No. 3019), the court said, suspension is mandatory for public officials facing valid graft charges.
Dedumo was being tried for violation of Section 3(e) of the anti-graft law.
Last January 2017, the Ombudsman filed charges against Dedumo for appointing his sister, Flordeliza Coro, as a municipal consultant without any appropriate authority.
State prosecutors claimed Dedumo caused undue injury to the government when he allowed Coro to obtain a cash advance for travel expenses worth P22,760.00 despite not being an employee of the municipality.
The antigraft court has directed the Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año to implement the suspension order. By GD Screengrab from Rushford Dedumo’s Facebook account
