The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has ordered all contractors involved in over 700 government projects regionwide to finish all infrastructure projects this year as the transition period for the cash-based budgeting will be implemented in 2019.

Saying 2018 is “golden age of infrastructure” for the region, Engr. Pol Delos Santos, DPWH regional director in Caraga, stressed the urgent need for contractors handling DPWH projects to perform “double time” and meet completion targets .

“The goal to complete the projects this year will be made possible if there is teamwork and collaborative effort between the DPWH and contractors,” he said.

Santos said he already instructed all implementing units of the agency to go on the ground on a 24/7 basis to personally supervise the ground works of their respective contractors in an effort to hit their respective timeline of completion of all contracts for Fiscal Year 2018 and prior years.

“But most importantly, all District Engineers (DE) and Project Engineers (PE) personal appearance on the ground will surely implement good quality materials and good quality works,” Delos Santos said

The DPWH-Caraga is currently implementing 761 projects worth P34 billion, including flood control, school buildings, bridges, evacuation centers and road networks under the Duterte administration’s Build, Build, Build Program.

“The connectivity of roads, including lateral roads will surely boost the growing economies in Caraga region and neighboring regions in Southern and Northern Mindanao regions,” he said.
