The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has filed charges against Tubajon, Dinagat Islands Mayor Romeo Vargas and Basilisa town councilor Norlito Ticod for illegal possession of firearms following a Saturday morning (March 23) raids of their homes.
The charges were filed at the Department of Justice in Surigao City on March 25, according to Insp. Rey Gallego, CIDG chief in Surigao del Norte.
The charges stemmed from the alleged recovery of high-powered firearms and ammunition from a separate raid in the houses of Mayor Vargas in Barangay Santa Cruz and of Ticod in Barangay Puerto Princesa, Basilisa.
The two were subjects of the search warrant issued by Judge Shineta Tare Palacio of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 32 in Surigao City.
The operations stemmed from complaints that the officials were storing weapons, said Gallego.
The CIDG inventory showed that an M16 rifle with scope and bipod, magazine for M16, ammunition, .22-caliber magnum, and an air gun convertible were recovered from Vargas during the raid.
Confiscated from Ticod were .45-caliber pistol colt, magazine for caliber 45 pistol, ammunition, empty shells for caliber 38 revolver and black holster, said Gallego. By CLC
