By Ben Serrano

A village councilor and an active police officer in Caraga were arrested on Monday in separate drug operations in Rosario town in Agusan del Sur province.

Aileen Lovitos, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Caraga (PDEA-13) identified the drug suspects as Marivic Quicos Caburog, 42, a council member of Barangay 3, and Senior Police Officer 1 Azul Labicane Torillo, 38, who was assigned in Surigao del Norte.

Lovitos said anti-illegal drug operatives collared Caburog during the raid on her house, which was backed by a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court .

During the operation on Torillo, the policeman eluded arrest but voluntarily surrendered to Rosario police station at around 8 p.m on the same day, Lovitos said.

Seized from the two suspects were illegal drug paraphernalia and suspected shabu weighing 11 grams with an estimated street value of around P129,800.00.

Chief Supt. Rolando Felix , the Caraga police director, said Quicos was identified as a new drug personality categorized as High Value Target (HVT) Level 1 user while Torillo was tagged as HVT Level 2 pusher, and among those listed as priority targets.

Felix said cooperation and sharing of information with other law enforcement agencies and the active support of the community are among the potent tools in the fight against illegal drugs.

The suspects are detained at the PDEA detention facility in Butuan City while charges are being prepared against them.
