Three self-confessed communist rebels have surrendered with their weapons to the Philippine Army in San Luis, Agusan del Sur on Tuesday.
Capt. Aldim Viernes, civil-military operations officer of the Army’s 26th Battalion, 401st Infantry Brigade, identified the surrendered rebels by their aliases “Ka Saskie,” 23, and his wife, “Ka Althea,” 21, and “Ka Rex,” 34.
Viernes said the three belonged to the Peacock Platoon of the New People’s Army (NPA) Guerilla Front 88 under the North Central Mindanao Region.
He said the three former rebels who also surrendered an M16 rifle, an AR18 armalite, a shotgun and live ammunition, turned themselves in with the help of a tribal leader who had convinced them to surrender.
Viernes reiterated the government is committed to help the newly surrendered NPA fighters through the Enhanced Comprehensive Localized Integration Program (ECLIP) and so with other previously surrendered NPAs. By CLC
