Come down, avail of gov’t aid, NPAs in Caraga urged

The military urged communist rebels operating in Caraga to surrender or face a full-scale offensive.

Leave your arms and come down.

This was the message of Maj. Gen. Ronald C. Villanueva, commander of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division to members of the New People’s Army (NPA) as he urged the rebels to come down and avail of the government’s peace, livelihood and development program.

“Surrender now or face the consequences of your evil activities,” Villanueva said.

He said NPA rebels who would voluntarily surrender can avail of the “Balik-Baril, Bayad Agad” program and the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) for rebel returnees, jointly implemented by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPPAP), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and different local government units (LGUs).

Villanueva said they were extending their open arms to insurgents who decide to walk the path of genuine peace and be spared from the current all-out counterinsurgency operations to crush the communist movement.

“There will be no let-up in our operation to hunt down the remaining terrorist members in this part of the country,” he said.

Government forces in the Caraga are complementing each other “to crush” the remaining armed communists in the region, the official added. By CLC
