Caraga recorded 17 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Thursday (Sept. 17), bringing the total number of infections in the region to 876.
The Department of Health in Caraga (DOH-13) said 13 of the new cases were recorded in Butuan City, the region’s capital, where there has been a “local transmission” of the virus.
The other areas in Caraga that have new coronavirus cases were Bislig City – 2, and Tandag City – 1, all in Surigao del Sur province, and Buenavista, Agusan del Norte – 1.
The DOH Caraga said of the 17 new cases, seven were close contacts of previously confirmed cases, three were health care workers, and seven were new local transmission cases.
As to sex distribution, nine were females, while eight were males.
Majority of the cases or 59% (9) belong to the 11-40 age group wherein the youngest is two years old and the oldest is 84 years old.
At least seven of the 17 patients are asymptomatic, eight with mild symptoms and two are severe cases.
The asymptomatic cases were strictly monitored for quarantine, while the symptomatic patients were admitted at identified hospitals or quarantine facilities for management, the DOH Caraga added.
To date, the number of COVID-19 cases in Caraga region is now at 876, with 479 recoveries, 371 active cases, and 26 deaths. CLC
