Four more fatalities of the dreaded coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in Caraga, bringing the death toll in the region to 232.
In a bulletin released Wednesday, the Department of Health (DOH) in Caraga said the latest deaths involved a 65-year-old man from Butuan City; a 30-year-old man from Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur; a 75-year-old woman from Lianga town in Surigao del Sur; and a 67-year-old man from Carrascal, also in Surigao del Sur. The four died between Jan. 9 and 11.
The health department also reported 38 new cases of the infection for the entire region.
Of the newly-reported cases, DOH Caraga said Agusan del Sur topped the list of new infections regionwide. The province has 16 COVID-19 cases.
This was followed by Tandag City with six cases; Surigao del Sur with five cases; Bayugan City with four;Butuan City with three;and two each in Surigao City and Agusan del Norte province.
With these new cases, the number of known COVID-19 infections in Caraga has now reached 5,167.
The number of patients who recovered from the viral illness has so far reached 4,350, while there are still 585 active cases as of Wednesday afternoon. CLC
