Butuanons unleashed their creative fire with the first barangay belen contest December 16 to January 30, 2016.
Out of 44 urban and rural barangays, 21 joined as initiated by the City Government chaired by Councilor Cromwell P. Nortega.
Using waste and indigenous materials as embellishments, the belens in their respective barangays evoke the vibrance and color of the Christmas spirit as demonstrated by barangay officials and constituents as they proudly presented their creativity to the visiting board of judges and guests.
Ten barangays were named finalists leading to the top three winners. Criteria narrowed on creativity, originality, visual impact and effect.
The top ten barangays are Bancasi, Bit-os, Imadejas, Datu Silongan, Baan 3, Ambago, Ong Yiu, Doongan, Limaha and Golden Ribbon.
Landing the final top three from the level two judging are: Doongan, Baan 3 and Ong Yiu, first, second and third respectively. Each barangay got cash prizes.
The board of judges, level one are : Ms. Jo Ebdalin, Bobby Cielo, Mark Arnaiz, Cyrel, Kit Gregos and OJ Fajardo. Level two; Ramon Jorge Sarabosing, Earl Dela Victoria, Gualberto Licong Jr., Cris Tamis and Cyril Collado.
