Barangay councilor, brother nabbed in Surigao drug bust

Police arrested a barangay kagawad (village councilor) and his brother in a drug buy-bust in Surigao City on Thursday.

Mark Jun Cayetuna, incumbent councilor of Barangay Sabang was arrested along with his brother, Edgar Cayetuna on Thursday afternoon.

At least 2 grams of suspected shabu worth P23,000.00 were seized from the Cayetuna siblings.

The two face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).

In a simultaneous raid conducted in Barangay San Juan, lawmen also arrested a former Barangay kagawad identified as Eclesiastico Renconada .

In Agusan del Sur, alleged drug suspect Romeo Sulmeron was rushed at a local hospital Wednesday in Patin-ay, Prosperidad, who suffered gunshot wounds as a result of a firefight with operatives of the Caraga Police Drug Enforcement Unit while serving warrant against him.

Seized from the suspect were shabu worth P11,800, drug paraphernalia and a .38 revolver. Sulmeron was considered a high value target by the police.

According to the report, Jomart Ytang, a college student in San Francisco town was also busted for selling a gram of shabu together with Sulmeron.

“PRO-13 is committed to implement operations against illegal drug activities in our region, and continues to partner with the community and to hold those accountable,” said Caraga police director Chief Supt.
Rolando Felix.

“I encourage the citizens to continue to reach out to the police, with their valuable information,” Felix said.
