Army’s Centino named as new 4th ID chief

A seasoned senior Army officer who has led successful anti-insurgency campaigns has been appointed as the new commander of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), which oversees parts of Northern Mindanao and Caraga region.

Maj. Gen. Andres Centino will replace Maj. Gen. Franco Nemecio Gacal who was moved to the military headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo.

Gacal was credited with the neutralization of top New People’s Army (NPA) leaders in Caraga and mass surrenders of Red-fighters and supporters.

Centino will assume the post on Friday at 4th ID headquarters in Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro.

Prior to his new post, he was the deputy chief of staff for operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Centino is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” class of 1988. He also served as commander of 401st Brigade based in Agusan del Sur. CLC
