Suspected communist rebels have beheaded a militiaman whom they abducted on Saturday in Surigao del Sur, the military said on Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Xerxes Trinidad, commanding officer of the Army’s 36 Infantry Battallion based in Tago, Surigao del Sur, said the headless body of Mar Acevedo Bocales was recovered in Barangay Bolhoon, San Miguel town on Monday.
The victim was a former communist rebel who surrendered with his firearm to the government last December 2016, according to Trinidad.
Bocales, a member of the Citizen Armed Force Geopgraphical Unit (CAFGU) was hunting in a forested area of Barangay Bolhoon when undetermined number of armed men blocked his way and forcibly took Bocales as they fled on Satuday.
“It was inhumane and barbaric, which truly shows the real face of the NPA terrorist,” Trinidad said, adding Bocales’ body was mutilated and bearing signs of torture.
“Rest assured that justice will be served and the full force of the law will catch up against the perpetrators.”
The Cafgu is an auxiliary unit of the Philippine Army in its fight against the communist rebels
