Relief from the perennial flooding in Butuan may be coming soon.
The Department of Public Works and Highways said it was nearing completion of the P289.5-million Lower Agusan Riverbank protection structure, a major flood control project in Butuan.
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said the 1.5-kilometer river wall project on the west bank of the Agusan River along Agao-Urduja-PPA Section, is already 92 percent complete.
Villar said residents of Butuan will be better protected from flooding with the completion of the project, designed to reinforce the existing flood wall, flood gates, and relief pumping stations in the city.
“Now 92 percent completed, this project will protect the West Bank of Agusan River from severe scouring and will reinforce the existing flood wall, flood gates, and relief pumping stations,” Villar said.
He expressed confidence that the project which is being implemented in two phases would be finished by the second quarter of the year. By CLC
