Alleged rebels surrender, yield guns, say Caraga police

Eight alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels operating in Surigao del Sur have surrendered to authorities, according to a report from the Caraga  Police Regional Office (PRO-13 ) on Thursday.

Police Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr., Caraga regional police director, said the communist guerillas voluntarily turned themselves to the Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office based in Tandag City on Wednesday night (January 15).

Their surrender took place at 8:30 p.m., following talks with the local police, military and community leaders.

The report identified the alleged surrenderers by their by their aliases: “Urban”, “Diokno”, “Ryan”, “Gamay”, “Bryan ”, “Rustom ”, “Ashley ” and alias “Jonifer ”. 

The former rebels also turned over their firearms.

Esquivel reiterated his appeal to the remaining communist guerrillas to surrender and return to their respective families.

“I continue to appeal to all active CPP-NPA Terrorists and MB members to return to the folds of the law and become beneficiaries of the E-CLIP because our government is extending hands to them with an optimal objective of lasting peace in the country,” Esquivel said.
