Alleged rebel leader nabbed in Surigao Sur

Police authorities in the Caraga region announced the arrest of a suspected ranking communist rebel leader in a remote village in Carascal town in Surigao del Sur province on Tuesday.

Marie Vic Sustituedo, aka “Bebing”and “Celin,” was collared in Barangay Adlay on the strength of arrest warrants issued by a local court for charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention. She did not resist arrest.

Police Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., Caraga police director said Sustituedo is a deputy secretary and finance staff of Guerilla Front Malayag, Sub-Regional Command 2 of the New People’s Army’s North Central Mindanao Region.

According to Caramat, Sustituedo was among the suspects in the raid of a militia patrol base in Barangay New Tubigon, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, in 2018 that led to the abduction of two soldiers and 12 militiamen.

“The joint police and army efforts in partnership with the community have yielded to significant gains on the ground like the apprehension of CTG members with standing warrant of arrest,” he said.
