Two alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were arrested on Wednesday (March 3 ) for the 2020 death of a police officer in Tandag City in Surigao del Sur.

Ramel Aguire, 47, and his common-law wife Jenelyn Abao, 29, were subjects of arrest warrants issued by a court in Tandag for murder and frustrated murder charges, said Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., Caraga regional police director.

Police learned about the couple’s presence in the city through intelligence gathering.

Caramat said the two were allegedly part of a group of rebels tagged in an armed encounter with the police that killed Patrolman Jennis Mark Encinas in Barangay Buenavista, Tandag, on Sept. 28 last year.

“Five months after the death of Patrolman Encinas, finally justice is being served for the family and to all the men and women of PNP who are bravely fighting criminality and terrorism throughout the country to give people a safer and more peaceful place to live,” he said.

Aguire and Abao were detained at the lock-up facility of the Tandag  police station. CLC
