AFP sends more troops to Surigao del Sur

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has deployed additional troops to Surigao del Sur to augment other government forces in the NPA-infested province.

On Saturday, the Army’s 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade said soldiers from the 16th Special Forces Company of the Special Forces Regiment Airborne, Special Operations Command arrived in Tandag City via C-130 Air force cargo plane.

The troops ,who were pulled out from their assignments in Jolo, Sulu, were welcomed by top area commanders and provincial and city officials.

Col. Franco Nemesio Gacal, commanding officer of the Army’s 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade based said the troop movement was as normal part of the security forces’ responsibility in maintaining peace and order.

He said the troops would also assist the local government unit and 402nd Brigade achieve their mission, which is to create an environment conducive to development and lasting peace. By YUC
