The Caraga Region Police Office (PRO-13) announced on Tuesday the arrest of nine persons in a series of operations against loose firearms across the region.
Brigadier General Gilberto DC Cruz, Caraga police regional director, identified village councilman Archie Perez and Marcelito Precioso, councilman of Barangay Nuevo Trabajo in San Luis, Agusan del Sur, as among those arrested for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Aside from Perez and Precioso, authorities also arrested Bonifacio Bagante, a close-in bodyguard of a town mayor in Agusan del Sur, Dandy Mansigue, Renante Beto, Edgar Beto, Benjie Manlicayan, Junrito Lavisto, and Saint Nicolas Ecleo in operations conducted on Monday.
During the separate series operations in various parts in the region, the police seized UZI Caliber 9mm pistol, two caliber .45 pistol Colt, .357 revolver, two 12 gauge shotgun, three short magazine of caliber .45 pistol Colt, one long magazine of UZI Caliber 9mm pistol, and 69 ammunition.
Cruz attributed the success of the campaign against loose firearms to the participation of the community, vowing to after law violators, even if they were incumbent public officials.
“We do not care whoever the violator is. If he violates the law, we will implement the law,” he warned.
The drive against loose firearms, Cruz said, is part of security operations so these may not be used in poll-related violence during next month’s mid-term elections. By CLC
