About 650 policemen will be deployed for the security of the Kahimunan Festival on Sunday (Jan. 21), the Caraga Region Police Office (PRO-13) said.

“Annually, Caraganons participate in the festivity of Señor Sto Niño and we have to keep them safe from any untoward incidents,” Caraga police director Chief Supt. Noli Romana said in a statement Thursday.

The Kahimunan Festival in Butuan is held every year in January in honor of the Holy Child Jesus or the Santo Niño.

Romana said the PRO-13 and the Armed Forces of the Philippines have been closely coordinating to ensure the safety of devotees and secure the Sto. Niño Church and other places of convergence, including the procession and parade routes.

Anticrime operations were also being conducted to preempt and deter criminal activities that might occur during the day of the feast, he said.

The regional police is preparing for a higher number of devotees that will attend this year’s Kahimunan Festival. By GD
