Six Butuan City Jail inmates and eight Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel tested positive for  SARS–CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Jail Supt. Bernie Ruiz, deputy regional director for administration and operations of the Caraga BJMP, said the infected persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and personnel had been sent on quarantine in the city’s designated facility.

He said the BJMP immediately deployed personnel to the jail to ensure its operations would not be affected.

The jail management, in collaboration with the city government, has taken steps to contain the possible spread of the virus within the facility, he added. The jail has been on lockdown since Nov. 16.

BJMP had banned visits to the jail since March to prevent the spread of the virus. CLC
