Five persons were arrested in an anti-illegal logging operation that resulted in the confiscation of about 574 board feet of illegally-sawn Lauan lumbers in Cagwait town, Surigao del Sur province.

Chief Supt. Noli A. Romana, Caraga police director, said Cagwait policemen arrested Donald Silvoza after he yielded 109 board feet of lauan lumber, a type of dipterocarp, loaded in a Rusi single motorcycle in Cagwait around 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

The following day, suspects Johnny Lozano, Ramel Logronio, Felipe Lozada, and Joselito Lozano were also caught in the act while unloading some 465 board feet of lauan lumber from three single motorcycles.

Romana said the combined number of the seized lumber is worth around P 11,486 if sold.

The arrested suspects were brought to the Cagwait police station and will be charged with violations of the Forestry Reform Code.

“The arrested suspects were brought to the police station and will face charges for violation of PD No. 705 otherwise known as the Forestry Code of the Philippines,” Romana said. By GD
