A magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Surigao del Sur on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has reported.
According to Phivolcs, the temblor struck 102 kilometers (km) northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur, at 8:12 a.m.
The quake, which was of tectonic origin, had a depth of 14 kilometers.
It was felt at Intensity IV in Bislig City and Intensity II in Davao City.
No aftershocks or damage could be expected from the tremor generated from the Surigao trench, Phivolcs said.
