A 5.0 magnitude earthquake rocked Surigao del Sur on Sunday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks after the quake struck 18 kilometers east of the Surigao del Sur municipality of Cortes, at 6:53 p.m.
Phivolcs said that the tremor was of tectonic origin, and had a 28-kilometer depth of focus.
The temblor was also recorded at Instrumental Intensity II in Cagwait, Surigao del Sur and Instrumental Intensity II in Surigao City.
Phivolcs added that while the quake may cause aftershocks, no significant damage can be expected. CLC
