The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-Caraga) disclosed some 40 barangay officials in Caraga region were included in the narco-list of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Dindo Abellanosa, spokesperson of PDEA-Caraga, said the agency would publicize the names of the village officials, composed of several chairmen and village councilors, tagged of having links with illegal drugs, in the coming days.
“It’s better that they be named in public since the barangay election is drawing near,” Abellanosa said.
The PDEA saw the village and youth council elections as an opportunity for the people to remove officials with ties to illegal drugs, he said.
Abellanosa, however, said the number would go down once the validated list of barangay officials engaged in drug trade who are included in the PDEA National Drug Information System, sets in.
PDEA chief Aaron Aquino earlier announced that President Duterte directed them to release within the week PDEA’s list of barangay officials involved in the illegal drug trade, a few weeks ahead of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on May 14.
Abellanosa appealed to voters in Caraga region with 1, 311 barangays, to not to reelect barangay chairpersons and kagawads purportedly involved in the illegal drug trade. By GD
