Three members of the New People’s Army, one of them a woman, have surrendered to authorities in Agusan del Sur on Thursday (March 22), the military said.
Lt. Col. Rommel Pagayon, commander of the Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion, identified the rebels as Jeffrey Mondejar alias Bars, the supposed vice commander of the NPA’s Regional Sentro de Grabidad; Jaica Precioso alias IC, allegedly a medic of NPA Guerilla Front 88 under the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee; and Apatan Agsubo alias Tan, a supposed regular fighter of the NPA’s Front 34.
Pagayon said the three gave themselves up at their headquarters in Talacogon, Agusan del Sur yesterday, Thursday, and turned over five firearms including an AK47 rifle, an M-16 and rounds of ammunition.
According to Pagayon, the unprecedented number of surrenders in the province could be attributed to the Duterte administration’s call to return to government fold.
The rebel returnees will soon be enrolled in the Comprehensive Livelihood Integration Program (CLIP) to avail themselves of livelihood aid from the government. By GD Photo courtesy of Army Diamond
