Two earthquakes jolted Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte within minutes of each other early on Independence Day Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The first and stronger earthquake measured magnitude 4.5 and hit 17 kilometers (km) southeast of the town of General Luna at 1:42 p.m., Phivolcs said Wednesday.
It was felt at Intensity 4 in General Luna and adjacent town Dapa.
The quake of tectonic origin had a depth of 13 km.
Minutes later, another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 hit the same general area at 2:03 a.m., Phivolcs said.
Intensity 3 was also felt in both Genral Luna and Dapa.
Also of tectonic origin, it had a depth of 14 km.
No aftershocks or damage could be expected from the earthquake. / CLC
