2 NPA rebels killed in Surigao, AgSur clashes

The Communist Party of the Philippines has ordered its armed wing, the New People’s Army to mount tactical attacks in response to the government’s declaration of martial law. Skeptica

Two suspected communists rebels were killed in separate clashes in Surigao City and Agusan del Sur on Tuesday, authorities said.

Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez, spokesperson of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division , said a New People’s Army guerilla was killed during a clash with army soldiers in Barangay New Tubigon, in Sibagat town.

He said the clash which lasted for about 20 minutes resulted in the recovery from the encounter site of AK-47 and M16 rifles.

On the same day at about 7 p.m. in Sitio Brazil, Baragay Mat-i, an outskirt community just few kilometers away from Surigao City, troops under 30th Infantry Battalion also encountered communist rebels in said area.

The ten-minute firefight resulted to the death of another NPA rebel and wounding others while 2 M16 rifles were recovered by the troops at the encounter site.

Last week, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) has ordered its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), to mount more attacks in Mindanao in response to the government’s declaration of martial law.

The CPP leadership also called on Filipinos to fight the imposition of martial law and demand its immediate lifting.

“They must carry out and intensify protest mass actions nationwide, banner the demand to end martial law, assert civilian rule and respect for civil and political rights as well highlight the basic demands of the workers and peasants and other democratic sectors,” it said in a statement .

Major Gen, Benjamin R Madrigal Jr., commander of the 4th ID lauded his men troops for their swift action in addressing the threat posed by the NPA rebels in the said communities.
