A total of 18 people who were freed using the now controversial Good Conduct Time Allowance or GCTA law have surrendered to authorities across Caraga.
Police said among those who surrendered were convicted of rape, thief , illegal drugs and murder, among others.
Records from the police showed that nine of the surrenderers came from Surigao del Norte; Surigao del Sur, 3; Butuan City, 3; and Agusan del Norte, Surigao City, Bayugan City and Cabadbaran City, one each.
On September 4, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered all heinous crime convicts released based on the GCTA law, which shortened their prison sentence based on good conduct while in jail, to surrender or face warrantless arrest.
The 15-day deadline set by the President ends today, September 19. By CLC
